An exciting opportunity for a Development Chemist with a key manufacturing client within the area that is being presented on a fixed term contract basis for 12 months and is placed within the R & D Team. The role has become available due legal changes around a specific product within the client portfolio.

There are 3 important key pointers we are seeking in an individual:-

  1. Applicants must have experience within a Laboratory Development Chemist position ie. not just theoretical.
  2. The ideal background we are seeking is cosmetic or personal care.
  3. Any experience working with aerosols would be considered desirable.

Whilst this is a full time role, your role will initially be split working 3 day on site and 2 days from home. This will change to full time on site in the very near future.

 

THE RESPONSBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Developing and formulating products as directed by the New Product Development group, or the European Technical Director.

Support key projects 

Preparation of laboratory and stability samples.

Develop product demonstrations for new innovation. 

Present new projects and research to a wide audience.

Sourcing of external assistance where required.

To be involved with laboratory or in use tests to determine the products properties.

Working closely with Marketing, Technical Manager Production and providing technical support.

Working with Quality Control and Packaging Departments to provide technical support.

Equipment - ensuring the proper use and maintenance of equipment and instruments used.

Reporting to the Senior Chemist/R&D Manager any problems observed with products on test.

Literature searches and reviews of related topics when developing and formulating new products.

Processing - assistance, when required, for methods of manufacture.

Marketing - supply of samples and information for new or existing formulations.

Participating in daily running of Product Development laboratory and staff.

Ensuring the calibration of laboratory equipment is kept up to date.

 

THE SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE WE ARE SEEKING IN AN INDIVIDUAL

University Degree in Sciences or related relevant professional qualifications to degree level.

Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Ability to lead cross functionally, forge strong working relationships and build effective project teams.

Self-motivated with the ability to plan ahead and use initiative.

Proven FMCG industry experience in personal care formulation and science.

Excellent IT skills – particularly MS Word, Excel – with the ability to present information in forms, tables and spread sheets.

Self-motivated, energetic & positive attitude.

Proactive solutions and problem solving abilities.
