Community Safety Officer

Ref: HM/CSO Salary: ££16.47-£18.82 hr Contract Type: ContractLocation: Folkestone

Skill Set

Enforcement, Police, Local Government, Public Sector, Community Safety,

An interesting opportunity for a Community Safety Specialist with an organisation that is officially one of the best top 100 companies to work for!

The role is being presented initially on a 6 month fixed term contract basis, but there is every opportunity for the role to develop and continue beyond that point, for the longer term.

This could, for example prove ideal for someone who is ex-Police or ex-local Government or perhaps someone who has worked in a similar capacity before, but the ideal person will have worked within a Community Safety Unit who has an understanding of the issues it deals with, including anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse, safeguarding, violent crimes etc., but the role is ultimately about co-ordinating a solution to these problems or incidents with other agencies, which includes the Police, but could be Urban Pastors or the Council’s own Enforcement Teams.

The successful individual would need to have the level of communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with all these partner agencies and also the confidence to manage multi-agency meetings that deal with these types of incidents, asking these partners to support and resolve situations or incidents in the community.

In effect, the Community Safety Officer is required to pull together a multi-agency approach to solving problems within the district.

There is lots of signposting and lots of co-ordinating amongst lots of different agencies, all within a particularly fast paced environment!

There is an element of supporting funding applications so any budgeting skills would be considered helpful as would the ability to prepare legal files and give evidence in court, if required.

You will chair meetings and signpost partners to support and agencies for assistance, respond to crime and safety concerns and act on Anti-Social Behaviour activity on behalf of the local Council.

The role will be split 50:50 between office based and out in the community, in and around the Folkestone area, so a driving licence is required.

You would have access to a works vehicle and in the unlikely event a works vehicle not being available at any time, you would be required to use your own vehicle and re-claim mileage costs at the rate of £0.45 per mile.

Hours & Pay Rate:

Your core hours are generally 8.30am – 5.00pm. However due to the nature of the role and depending on the projects you are handling, there could be a requirement to work outside these times, including occasional weekend work, but you will average 37 hours per week. £16.47 per hour - £18.82 per hour depending on qualifications, skills and experience which equates to the equivalent salary of £31,769.00 = £36,310 per annum pro rata.

The successful candidate will then need to be DBS Enhanced Checked by the Council and NVVP Level 2 vetted for the Police at no personal cost to the individual. If you have the experience we are seeking, please email an up to date CV as soon as possible and suitable candidates will be contacted by return.
