We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Food and Safety Officer (Level 2) to join our Environmental Health & Licensing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic district where you will play a vital role in ensuring high standards of food hygiene, health and safety compliance, and infectious disease control across a wide range of businesses and public settings.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Carrying out official food controls and hygiene inspections in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice.

  • Leading on food sampling initiatives and the investigation of notifiable infectious diseases.

  • Enforcing food safety and health & safety legislation including issuing notices, gathering evidence, and taking formal enforcement action.

  • Investigating complaints relating to food premises, food fraud, and food poisoning outbreaks.

  • Supporting port health functions, including inspections at ports, airports, and cross-channel transport hubs.

  • Processing approvals for high-risk food premises and issuing export/surrender certificates.

  • Participating in the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and representing the service on relevant regional working groups.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Qualifications:

  • EHRB Registration and completion of the CIEH “log book” for high-risk food premises.

  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification (12-week course).

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience in food enforcement.

  • Strong technical knowledge of food safety legislation and health & safety in food premises.

  • Excellent communication, investigation, and report-writing skills.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • IT proficiency (Microsoft Office).

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in infectious disease investigation and food sampling.
